OCTOBER GOLD

We escaped home to visit our friends in the high desert. The humidity at home with temperatures in the high 90’s was just too much. It was impossible to cool the house at all. Arriving at our friend’s house, the temperatures were high 80’s but very dry. What a delightful difference. I was beginning toContinue reading “OCTOBER GOLD”

CHANGE IN THE WEATHER

After all the hot humid weather, the temperature finally broke this week into the upper 70’s and the humidity changed. During the heat, we could only lie low and hope for cooler days ahead. My cats were draped over the couch, and I too was resting more than usual. The air had felt like aContinue reading “CHANGE IN THE WEATHER”

TRANSITION SEASON

The transition from Summer to Fall is in full swing. Even the visiting birds are switching. I saw a flock of Canadian Geese. It seemed like they were heading north. Maybe its just been too hot here. This summer has been strange with its high humidity here in Southern California. All over the world, theContinue reading “TRANSITION SEASON”

AUGUST HARVEST

I started picking grapes and sorting through them on August 2 and finished on August 3rd. I lost a lot of grapes to the heat when I was gone for almost two weeks, but still there are enough grapes to probably get 5 gallons when I press them off their skins. They were also reallyContinue reading “AUGUST HARVEST”

GILDED LILIES BRING THE SUNSHINE

It has been dreary here. The wet blanket of fog is hugging the coastline of California bringing drizzle and a chill in the air. My tomatoes and peppers seem unwilling to grow and produce as it is been so cool even when the afternoon sun shines. But the flowers seem to like it. The yellowContinue reading “GILDED LILIES BRING THE SUNSHINE”

STRAWBERRY MOON OF JUNE

The moon rose on May 30 so low to the sky, it was hard to capture. Brilliant orange gold light so clear you could see the craters on the moon. The next night it rose on the actual full moon so blood red I could see why they called it the strawberry moon. We wereContinue reading “STRAWBERRY MOON OF JUNE”

NEW MOON IN ARIES

I finally went on a hike at nearby Wildwood Park. There is a small waterfall there that draws people as flowing water always does in Southern California. The waterfall is still flowing thanks to recent rains. In fact, the clouds on our way to the falls looked like we might get rain or even aContinue reading “NEW MOON IN ARIES”

MARCH – STRAIGHT FROM SPRING TO SUMMER

After my last post, I did go to the beach the next day. It was 85 but even stranger for Feb 28th was the beach itself. Maybe the early in the year storms deposited a ton of sand here, but whatever caused it, you could walk out for a long way and not even beContinue reading “MARCH – STRAIGHT FROM SPRING TO SUMMER”

AND JUST LIKE THAT, FEBRUARY ENDS

The rains started February 15th and rained through the 19th. We recorded another 3.25 inches of rain, bringing our rain year total to around 19 inches so far. The weather went from 80 degrees to low 50’s during the day and low 40’s at night. By late Thursday, the storm had moved east but weContinue reading “AND JUST LIKE THAT, FEBRUARY ENDS”

THE HILLS ARE ALIVE

We are now in mid-February and finally got some rain on Monday. After three weeks of warm 70’s -80’s, it was a nice break in the pattern. Driving along the freeway, the hills have come to life with yellow mustard and Bush sunflower or encilia californica. I took this picture of the encilia growing inContinue reading “THE HILLS ARE ALIVE”
