The moon rose on May 30 so low to the sky, it was hard to capture. Brilliant orange gold light so clear you could see the craters on the moon. The next night it rose on the actual full moon so blood red I could see why they called it the strawberry moon. We were lucky to have clear, fog free skies on these two nights. June is the kind month. The soft month. Usually not too hot, especially here in California. The fog rolls in during the evening and sometimes stays till the afternoon the next day where it warms to a gentle 74 or so degrees. The summer fruits have arrived and with it, the celebrations of June and summer.
With that in mind, I decided to go blueberry picking at a nearby farm. Memorial day weekend is usually their big kickoff for the blueberries, but when I went there they said the blueberries were basically done. You might find a few, but the hot weather of March followed by rain, set the blueberries early and they were basically done by the end of April. Wow! I hadn’t thought to check even though my own yard has black raspberries that arrived a month early. They were already picking raspberries and some blackberries on the farm. So I set off to pick raspberries and blackberries out in the berry patches. There were a lot of native creatures getting in on the action, including this little bunny below, as well as lizards, bees, and one little mouse. Truth is there were very few ripe raspberries left and just about a pound of blackberries. Neither were enough for making jam or pie unless I mix them with other fruit. So I’m going to just eat them for breakfast.

Meanwhile, in the dark sky, Venus and Jupiter are shining brightly and getting closer together. They will be within 2 centimeters of each visually on June 8-9. This conjuction will bring a great shining light in the sky. Hopefully, it will shine a light on the world and give hope that something good will change in the world or ourselves.
May it shine peace on everyone.
