THE MONARCH HAS CHOSEN ITS SITE

As I was out watering today, the Monarch came to me nearly landing on my hand. As I moved around the garden to where my Golden Barrel cactus sat, I looked down and to my surprise, found a Monarch caterpillar eating the milkweed that grew oddly in that pot. The Golden cactus is quite sharp. I never weed it even with gloves. But, here was my caterpillar feasting on the leaves of the milkweed. I guess the Monarch knows better than I where it is safe for its young.

I've been observing nature since I was a child. Whether it was plants, trees, birds, animals, insects or marine life, I've always had an interest in what was happening in the natural world. I can thank my parents for all the long walks through the woods, on beaches, and just sitting outside in nature. Now I am more concerned about the survival of biodiversity, our planet, and all that makes up our life here on Earth.
